Call you MP today! Ask them to vote to extend the debate on Bill C-474

Tonight at 5:30 all Members of Parliament will be called to the House of Commons for various votes including the vote on the sixth report from the Agriculture Committee – this is the request to allow a 30-day extension to the debate on Bill C-474.

Please call your MP and ask them to be present tonight in the House to
vote for the extension. You can search for your MP with your postal
code at www.parl.gc.ca
You can also call Liberal Agriculture Critic Wayne Easter: (613)
992-2406
You can also call Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff: (613) 995-9364

The extension is necessary so that the Committee can hear from more
farm leaders – if the extension is granted, the Committee will hear
from the President of the National Farmers Union tomorrow and more
farm leaders next week. If the Conservatives vote to shut down debate,
all Liberal votes will be needed to make sure the debate continues
(the NDP and Bloc all support Bill C-474).

Ask your MP (or leave this message for them):
– Please be present tonight to vote
– Please vote in favor of extending the debate over Bill C-474, vote
for the sixth report of the Agriculture Committee
– Bill C-474 would support Canadian farmers by requiring that “an
analysis of potential harm to export markets be conducted before the
sale of any new genetically engineered seed is permitted.”
– This extension to the debate is necessary so that the Committee, MPs
and all Canadians, can hear from more farm leaders about the Bill.

Your MP will be asked to vote on the following report:

Vote # 1 : Concurrence in Committee Reports/Adoption de rapports de
comit’s
No. 11 Motion to concur in the Sixth Report of the Standing Committee
on Agriculture and Agri-Food (extension of time, pursuant to Standing
Order 97.1, to consider Bill C-474, An Act respecting the Seeds
Regulations (analysis of potential harm))
