Dr.Thierry Vrain of Innisfreefarm , Courtenay , BC will be interviewed by Andrew Rezmer of Conscious Living Radio on May 22, 2013 from 6PM to 7PM. You may listen to the interview live or online .
Sponsored by Raoul Bedi, Local Food Activist and Conscious Media Consultant
Thierry is a great speaker – former geneticist and now an organic farmer who knows everything you need to know about what is wrong with GE crops.
Thierry will be at a community forum on GE crops on the 5th June. Go to the link below for more details

Bee colony collapse is taking on new proportions with up to half of bees now dying. Our current dysfunctional agricultural system is destroying itself from within by monoculture, massive use of pesticides and herbicides, and an unsustainable industrial agricultural model. Read the New York Times piece here, and below a quote, one of the first mainstream media stories that accept there may be a link between colony collapse and GE crops.
Neonicotinoids are hardly the beekeepers’ only concern. Herbicide use has grown as farmers have adopted crop varieties, from corn to sunflowers, that are genetically modified to survive spraying with weedkillers.
A new study cites significant health and environmental risks with glysophate, the main ingredient used in Round Up, the most commonly used herbicide with genetically engineered crops. A summary of the study can be found at:
A new study confirms that the Cry1Ab Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin present in genetically modified (GM) crops kills the larvae of the two-spotted ladybird (Adalia bipunctata L.), a species that GM supporters claim to be unaffected by the toxin.
The study raises questions regarding the integrity of previous work published by GM proponents, whose experimental protocols were re-tested and shown to lack the scientific rigour required to pick up signs of toxicity even in target insects that the pesticide is designed to kill.
Bt toxins are present in many GM crops including cotton and maize. Monsanto’s Mon 810 Bt maize is currently approved for cultivation in Europe, although it has been banned by individual nations including Hungary, France, Austria, Germany, Greece and Luxembourg due to health and environmental concerns. Many previous studies have found effects on health and the environment

This is a really important study so we are posting the summary in full. This is probably the most definitive report to date to show us we don’t need GE foods.
Why genetically engineered food is dangerous: New report by genetic engineers Earth Open Source 17 June 2012
The report called “GMO Myths and Truths, An evidence-based examination of the claims made for the safety and efficacy of genetically modified crops”, by Michael Antoniou, PhD, Claire Robinson, and John Fagan, PhD is published by Earth Open Source. The report is 123 pages long and contains over 600 citations, many of them from the peer-reviewed scientific literature and the rest from reports by scientists, physicians, government bodies, industry, and the media. The report is available here:http://earthopensource.org/index.php/reports/58 A shorter summary version will be released in the coming weeks. Below are some key points from the report.
